Synopsis of my application for
the Outline
of Proposal (500 words approximately) for Project or Professional
Experience: I
propose to develop a unit of work related to a topic undertaken by one of
my junior secondary mathematics classes in 2001. It
will encourage an active learning environment involving technology
supported learning with use of only 5 computers in the classroom.
The
model for development of this unit of work will be based on a “Whole
class – small group – whole class” teaching approach. Activities
for the small group learning centres will be developed for the following
types of groups: How
will this enhance your performance, enrich your professional experience,
and/or benefit others? (300 words approximately). This
project will enable me to develop a process for developing, implementing
and evaluating a unit of work that actively engages students, which
incorporates the use of 5 computers into the secondary mathematics
classroom. The
emphasis of the use of only 5 computers is important to my model as many
Secondary Mathematics Teachers still believe they need a computer
laboratory of 25 computers. This
project will enable me to model and share how to develop a unit of work
that involves an active learning environment that incorporates the
traditional approach of teacher directed learning, textbook exercises and
worksheets along with the new approach of student centred learning through
the use of hands-on tasks and computer exploration. I
will make the following available as a free download from the web: Detail
